Palestinian Rights Committee Will Hold Special Meeting to Observe International Day of Solidarity, 29 November

NEW YORK, 22 November (Division for Palestinian Rights) — The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will hold a special meeting in observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in the Trusteeship Council Chamber at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, 29 November, in accordance with General Assembly resolutions 32/40 B of 2 December 1977 and 70/13 of 24 November 2015.

Early entry into force seen as critical for boosting climate action

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has invited leaders from all countries to attend a special event on 21 September to deposit their instruments of ratification, acceptance, approval or accession to the Paris Agreement on climate change. The event will also provide an opportunity to other countries to publicly commit to joining or ratifying the agreement before the end of 2016. Continue reading

WHO calls for urgent action to curb hepatitis

23 JULY 2015 ¦ GENEVA On World Hepatitis Day (28 July) WHO highlights the urgent need for countries to enhance action to prevent viral hepatitis infection and to ensure that people who have been infected are diagnosed and offered treatment. This year, the Organization is focusing particularly on hepatitis B and C, which together cause approximately 80% of all liver cancer deaths and kill close to 1.4 million people every year. DAR ES SALAAM, 20 June 2016 – A three-day regional forum for action on albinism in Africa just concluded in Tanzania with a first-ever action plan developed. The forum which took place in Dar es Salaam from 17 to 19 June was hosted by the United Nations Independent Expert, Ms Ikponwosa Ero and partners.* “The forum had over 150 participants from 29 countries in the region including governments, non-governmental organizations, national human rights institutions, activists, human rights specialists from the UN and AU as well as academics.” Said the Expert. UN launches worldwide search for exceptional young leaders to help achieve Sustainable Development Goals

Young Leaders will collaborate with UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth to help end poverty, combat climate change and reduce inequality

 UN Headquarters, New York,15 June 2016-The United Nations today launched a new initiative to recognize exceptional young people who are leaders in the effort to end poverty, combat climate change and reduce inequalities.  Spear-headed by the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, the UN Young Leaders Initiative will recognize on an annual basis 17 young leaders who are driving change to help realize the Sustainable Development Goals.
