platform for Tanzanians to express their views, her program
acts as a public interest watchdog. Prior to joining BBC
Media Action, Ms. Richard was a news producer with TV
ONE Tanzania and a news anchor with Eatv Ltd. At the
United Nations, Ms. Richard looks forward bringing home
news from the General Assembly that impacts her audience
in rural and peri-urban areas, such as the high-level meeting
to end tuberculosis.

NELSON MANDELA INTERNATIONAL DAY IN TANZANIA
The United Nations Information Centre in partnership with the South African High Commission in Tanzania will on Wednesday the 18th of July, 2018 commemorate the International Nelson Mandela Day at the Buguruni School for the Deaf in Buguruni Malapa in Dar es Salaam.
In November 2009, the UN General Assembly declared through Resolution A/RES/64/13 that 18 July would be “Nelson Mandela International Day” in recognition of the former South African President’s contribution to the culture of peace and freedom.
Young Influencers in Tanzania to Boost Campaign to end Female Genital Mutilation
Dar es Salaam-This week, The Head of UN Population Fund in Tanzania, Jacqueline Mahon and The Head of the European Union Delegation to Tanzania and the East African Community, Ambassador Roeland Van De Geer met with young influencers in the country to scale up the campaign to end Female Genital Mutilation.
United Nations Secretary-General appoints High-level Panel on Digital Cooperation
WHAT:
UN Secretary-General António Guterres established the High-level Panel on Digital Cooperation to advance proposals to strengthen international cooperation in the digital space. The ultimate aim is to realize the transformational potential of digital technologies while safeguarding against risks and unintended consequences.
The panel will contribute to the broader global dialogue on how interdisciplinary and cooperative approaches can help ensure a safe and inclusive digital future for all.
Record number of countries, private and public-‐sector leaders to review progress on sustainable development
9-18 July 2018, UN Headquarters, New York-Thousands of high-‐level representatives from governments, civil society and the private sector will gather at the annual High-‐level Political Forum (HLPF) this month to take stock of progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and discuss successes, challenges and lessons learnt on the road to a fairer, more peaceful and prosperous world on a healthy planet by 2030.
Forty-‐seven countries will submit their Voluntary National Review (VNRs) -‐ an
important, evidence-‐based platform to highlight national implementation.

Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on Eritrea and Ethiopia
New York, 21 June 2018-The Secretary-General welcomes the positive steps taken recently by Ethiopia and Eritrea to resolve the outstanding issues regarding the normalization of relations between the two countries.

The Secretary-General would have much preferred for the United States to remain in the Human Rights Council. The UN’s Human Rights architecture plays a very important role in the promotion and protection of human rights worldwide.
