Indeed, we live in a dangerous world where we see a multiplication of new conflicts, old conflicts that seem never to die, and conflicts becoming more and more interlinked and more linked to what is now a new threat of global terrorism. There was always terrorism in the world, but this form of global terrorism is indeed new, and terrorism can strike anywhere at any time.’
JUNE 18, 2018-The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the two heinous and cowardly terrorist attacks that took place in Nangarhar, Afghanistan, on 16 and 17 June, which resulted in at least 43 people killed and 45 injured. For one of those attacks, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL/Da’esh) has claimed responsibility.
18 June 2018-The members of the Security Council welcomed the announcement by the Government of Afghanistan on 16 June, to extend the temporary ceasefire with the Taliban after the Eid al-Fitr holiday.The members of the Security Council expressed their strong disappointment that the Taliban has not extended their previously announced partial ceasefire, and urged them to respond to the call for peace from the Afghan people by reciprocating the Government’s ceasefire in full. Helsinki, Finland, 18 June 2018 – The President of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, participated in a panel on the future of multilateralism and the role of the United Nations, as part of the Kultaranta Talks, a foreign and security policy debate hosted by H.E. Mr. Sauli Niinistö, President of the Republic of Finland.

NEW YORK, 18 June 2018 – UNICEF has received EDGE Certification, becoming the first United Nations agency to earn the leading global assessment methodology and business certification standard for gender equality.
“Advancing gender equality and the rights of women and girls is at the core of what we do at UNICEF,” said UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta H. Fore. “To be the leading organization for the rights of all children and young people, including young women and girls, we have to lead by example.”
