NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 15, 2017-The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres will today commemorate the International Day of Peace through ringing the UN peace Bell at the Peace Garden at UN Headquarters and by observing a minute of silence.
The UN’s Department of Public Information Outreach section organized the Student Observance on 15 September 2017 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at UN Headquarters in New York.
Participants will include approximately 700 high school and college students and Jane Goodall, UN Messenger of Peace in New York, as well as youth participating via video conference from the UN Mission in Colombia.
The Secretary-General, UN Messenger of Peace Jane Goodall and the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Jayathma Wickramanayake, will address the students .
The theme for the 2017 International Day of Peace – Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All – honours the spirit of TOGETHER, a UN initiative that promotes respect, safety and dignity for everyone forced to flee their homes. The young people gathered at the Student Observance will discuss the key role they can play to strengthen the international community’s global partnership in support of diversity, non-discrimination and acceptance of refugees and migrants – and thereby foster a peaceful future.

In Tanzania, the International Day of Peace is being organised by UNIC dar es Salaam and partners and will be commemorated on the 23rd of September, 2017 at Mwembe Yanga grounds in Temeke District, Dar es Salaam.
